Japan Travel and Tokyo 日本旅行と東京

Japan is really an island country in East Asia. It is situated in the northwest Pacific Ocean, and is bordered on the west by the Sea of Japan, while extending from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north toward the East China Sea and Taiwan in the south.

Japan is really the 11th-most populous country in the world, as well as one of the most densely populated and urbanized. About three-fourths of the country's terrain is mountainous, concentrating its population of 125.36 million on narrow coastal plains. Japan is divided into 47 administrative prefectures and 8 so-called traditional regions. The Greater Tokyo Area is certainly the most populous metropolitan area in the world, with more than 37.4 million residents.

Japan really has been inhabited since the Upper Paleolithic period (30,000 BC). It seems that the first written mention of the archipelago appears in a Chinese chronicle (the Book of Han) finished in the 2nd century AD.

In the history of Japan, between the 4th and 9th centuries, the kingdoms of Japan became unified under an emperor and the imperial court based in Heian-kyō. Beginning in the 12th century, political power was held by a series of military dictators and feudal lords.

The climate of Japan is mostly temperate but varies greatly from north areas to south. The northernmost region, Hokkaido, has a humid continental climate with long, cold winters and very warm to certainly cool summers. It seems that precipitation is not heavy. However, the islands usually develop deep snowbanks in the winter time.

An interesting fact - the highest temperature ever measured in Japan, 41.1 °C (106.0 °F), was recorded on July 23, 2018, and repeated on August 17, 2020.

日本の歴史の中で、4世紀から9世紀にかけて、日本の王国は平安京に本拠を置く天皇と宮廷の下で統一されました。 12世紀以降、政治権力は一連の軍事独裁者と封建領主によって保持されていました。
